Randall Benson Returns to American Innovator Radio

On January 16, 2011, I returned to The American Innovator program to discuss Lean and The Quest Effect. Among other topics, we discussed Lean 2.0, American Lean culture, the danger of Lean orthodoxy, and the propensity to quest. I was critical of orthodox Lean but optimistic about Lean’s future.

Welcome to the Lean Heretic!

Who Am I

My name is Randall Benson and I’m an author, speaker and long-time Lean consultant. I’m also a Lean Heretic. I don’t buy the current Lean dogma, I refuse to conform to 60-year-old ideas without challenging them, and I’m committed to unorthodox approaches to Lean.

Check out my bio by clicking on my name under the banner.

Why I’m Blogging

I’m blogging because I’m concerned by what has been happening to Lean in America. Once a source of innovation, Lean has become calcified into a orthodoxy by the Lean keepers of the truth. As a result, we’re facing a situation where Lean is stagnating and no longer provides a source of innovation and competitive advantage. I’m concerned that the Lean body of knowledge in America is essentially the same as when I began to explore the subject in 1982. That’s unacceptable. I believe it’s time to liberate Lean from the shackles of orthodoxy and dogma and once again grow the body of knowledge.

What I’ll be Blogging About

You’ve probably figured by this point that I won’t be offering primers on traditional Lean techniques and I won’t be advocating for Lean as the new management philosophy. What I will be doing is challenging the Lean orthodoxy and exploring, with your help, how we can reinvigorate Lean to once-again be a source of innovation and breakthrough. Without innovation and breakthrough, there is no competitive advantage.
